Modern solar photovoltaic panels are robust and durable, designed to withstand intense monsoon rains, heat, and winds for 25+ years. However, proper cleaning and maintenance can boost overall energy generation by 10% to 20%.

1. Why Dust and Bird Droppings Matter

Dust, pollen, and bird droppings create localized shading on panel cells. Because cells are connected in series strings, shading even a single cell reduces the output of the entire module and can cause localized overheating (hotspots).

2. Best Cleaning Practices

  • Time of cleaning: Always wash panels early in the morning (before 8:30 AM) or late in the evening. Cold water sprayed onto sun-heated glass in the afternoon can cause thermal shock and glass micro-cracks.
  • Water quality: Use soft, clean water. Avoid high-mineral hard borewell water that leaves stubborn calcium stains.
  • Tools: Use a soft microfiber mop or sponge on an extension pole. Never use abrasive wire brushes, harsh detergents, or acid solutions that strip anti-reflective coatings.

3. Electrical Checks

Check your inverter display or mobile monitoring app monthly. If generation drops significantly on clear sunny days, check for tripping DC isolators or loose terminal connections.

Powerr Technologies provides annual maintenance contracts (AMC) including professional demineralized cleaning and thermal imaging inspection.
